Six years ago today, I was sitting on the patio down at Acapulco celebrating my Mom’s 50th birthday. Turning 50 is enough of a reason to celebrate but for your 50th birthday to fall on your favorite weekly holiday, Margarita Monday, it was an EXTRA special occasion. Anyone who has been following me since my San Pedro: Block by Block (SPBXB) days knows that my Mom was my best friend and biggest supporter- I even credit her for inspiring both SPBXB and Townee Tours. This October will mark the 6th anniversary of her passing. While I still feel her loss so deeply, there is so much that has happened in the last six years, because of her impact on me, that must be celebrated.
Ask anyone who knew me before Block by Block or Townee Tours or That’s So Pedro, they’d all agree that I’ve grown stronger, I’m more confident and healthier now than I was before any of these projects. To me, they’re all milestones along my journey. I always feel more “ME” every day than the day before. And I attribute it all to the love of my mother, whether she was there to watch it happen or not.
That’s why I think it is so fitting to have finalized the paperwork for the next project and milestone today, on my Mom’s birthday.
This afternoon I got the keys for my new studio at Angels Gate Cultural Center. It will be my new creative home and I have big plans for it. I consider Angels Gate as the last bit of wild Pedro left to be had and I’m super excited to be a part of it. I’ll be posting more now so be sure to check back often. It’ll be different than before, but it’ll still be fun. Growth is good for you.
Now, I have a date with a margarita.
